Our History of Success

Company Inception

1995 – Benefit Plans Plus, Ltd. was founded by Larry Aberle, APM

Company Merges with Long Standing Accounting Firm

1998 – Benefit Plans Plus, Ltd. merged with Brown Smith Wallace, a St. Louis based accounting firm founded in 1972. BPP had 150 retirement plans under administration at this point. The merger gave BPP the backing it needed to expand.

Growth and Expansion - The 2000's

2002 – Company Launches its website – www.bpp401k.com.
2004 – The firm reached 250 retirement plans under administration.
2006 – Patrick M. Shelton, GBA named Managing Member.
2007 – Reached 450 + Retirement plan clients.
2008 – Received the Centre for Fiduciary Excellence, LLC (CEFEX) Recordkeeper Certification for third party administrator services and the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) Seal of Service for Provider Excellence.
2008 – Qualified Plan Services merges with Benefit Plans Plus. The firm reached 750 retirement plans under administration.
2010-2014 – BPP continues to expand its presence throughout the mid-west.
2015 – Benefit Information Services merges with Benefit Plans Plus. BPP opens office in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The firm reached 1,000 retirement plans under administration.
2016 – BPP received the Fiduciary Supply Management Association (FSMA) Procurement Rating for third party administrators.
2018 – BPP Hires Principal Matt Wiley, CRPS and opens office in Cincinnati, OH, furthering its Midwest footprint.
2018 – Benefit Plans Plus celebrates the 10 year anniversary of receiving the Centre for Fiduciary Excellence, LLC (CEFEX) Recordkeeper Certification for third party administrator services.
2019 – Tri-State 401(k) merges with Benefit Plans Plus to include an office in Henderson, Kentucky, hiring Kim Chavira, QKA as Principal.
2021 – Benefit Plans Plus is a Founding Member Firm of The Cerrado Group, and Pat Shelton Serves on its executive Committee.

2023 – 2024 BPP Continues to grow and expand its presence in the retirement plan industry by focusing on its key strengths and its culture of customer service.
